Retrofit Or Replace The MCC Bucket?
A retrofit may keep serviceable enclosure, door, mounting, and stab hardware in place while selected power or control components are updated. A replacement bucket may be the better path when the existing unit is damaged, heavily modified, missing critical parts, or unsuitable for the required ratings and equipment.
- Document the condition of the bucket, stabs, insulation, wiring, operator, interlocks, and section before selecting a path.
- Confirm available space, heat dissipation, short-circuit or interrupting requirements, and the intended motor or feeder load.
- Compare outage work, field wiring changes, documentation, future parts support, and total quoted scope—not component price alone.
- A phased modernization plan can address critical or obsolete buckets first when the remaining MCC structure is suitable for continued service.

- Facility location, outage window, access constraints, target date, and whether remote review, a quote, drawings, or site work is needed.
Project Responsibilities & Limits
- Final design responsibility, equipment approval, installation, inspection, and code acceptance depend on the written project scope and authority having jurisdiction.
- Arc-flash, short-circuit, coordination, load-flow, and facility studies require current system data and must be specifically included in a proposal.
